Horse Play: Hermès Arceau collection

hermes-arceau-cheval-dorient-1As far as I know, there is not a great deal of watch collections that are distinctly associated with the equestrian world. Now that Ralph Lauren have their own line of watches they could claim an affiliation – but no brand comes to mind faster when it comes to horses than Hermès.

THE PRESTIGIOUS LUXURY BRAND started out creating high quality saddles and equipment for horses. Now a huge brand manufacturing all kinds of desirable goods, Hermès launch the Arceau collection to tie in with equestrian sports.

The Arceau Chrono Bridon, available in five versions, is a winner. All models feature a new bradoon strap, along with the same rounded case design, stirrup-shaped asymmetrical lugs and signature sloping Arabic numerals, as did the original line designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978.

Inspired by riding bridles, the small leather bit known as a bradoon reinforces the strap attachment to the case with distinctive saddle stitching. Crafted from Barenia calfskin, a typical material for Hermès; or from bridle leather, a rough material that is extremely tough to handle, the new straps of the Arceau Chrono Bridon highlight the harness and saddle-making expertise of the House. Powered by a self-winding chronograph calibre and available in black, natural, ebony or indigo blue versions, it’s a nice choice for the races.
